The voters' list is a list of eligible electors in the Township of Southwold. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for collecting the information of residents in Ontario (name, date of birth, citizenship, school support) in order to create a Preliminary List of Electors for municipal and school board elections. Municipalities will use the Primary List of Electors to prepare their Voters List for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Electors.

A voter will be asked to provide the prescribed proof of Identity and residence or complete an application in the prescribed form, including a statutory declaration, to prove his/her right to vote. Such proof of identity and residence shall include the person's name, qualifying address and signature. In addition, a voter may be asked to provide proof of citizenship, such as birth certificate, Canadian Citizenship certificate or other such documentation.
One piece of identification (ID) showing your name and qualifying Township of Southwold address is needed to register to vote. Types of acceptable identification showing name and Southwold address:
An Ontario driver’s licence.
An Ontario Health Card (photo card).
An Ontario Photo Card.
An Ontario motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion).
A cancelled personalized cheque.
A mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement relating to property in Ontario.
An insurance policy or insurance statement.
A loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution.
A document issued or certified by a court in Ontario.
Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government.
Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
An income tax assessment notice.
A Child Tax Benefit Statement.
A Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E.
A Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS).
A Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P).
A Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions.
A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Works.
A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Disability Support Program.
A Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007.
A property tax assessment.
A credit card statement, bank account statement, or RRSP, RRIF, RHOSP or T5 statement.
A CNIB Card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities.
A hospital card or record.
A document showing campus residence, issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a post-secondary institution.
A document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, issued by the Administrator for the home.
A utility bill for hydro, water, gas, telephone or cable TV or a bill from a public utility commission.
A cheque stub, T4 statement or pay receipt issued by an employer.
A transcript or report card from a post-secondary school
During the last week of September, delivery of Voting Kits to those that are on the Voter's List as of September 6th, 2022 will commence. After this date, Voting Kits will be provided by the Clerk or designated Election Official, either by mail or in person at the Township office. A Voting Kit shall consist of:
A Voting Instruction Sheet;
A Composite Ballot;
A White Ballot Secrecy Envelope;
A Voter Declaration Form (with bar code);
A Yellow Return Envelope with prepaid postage and
Such other necessary material as the Clerk or designated Election Official determines necessary.
Upon receipt of the Voting Kit, each voter should follow the instructions provided in the Voting Kit exactly. The instructions require the voter to:
Complete the Ballot:
Insert the ballot into the ballot envelope marked Secrecy Envelope:
SEAL the Ballot Secrecy Envelope;
Complete and sign the Voter Declaration Form. If a voter requires assistance in voting, he/she shall make their mark (ie. an "x") on the signature line and have a witness sign in the signature area of the Voter Declaration form;
Place the completed Voter Declaration Form, along with the SEALED Ballot Secrecy Envelope, into the yellow prepaid business reply envelope;
Seal the yellow prepaid business envelope; and
Mail the yellow prepaid business envelope by the guaranteed date of return or deliver it by some other means to the Municipal Office no later than 8:00 PM on October 24th, 2022
NOTE: The postage paid envelope is only applicable for mail originating within Canada
A Ballot Return Station will be established for voters, who prefer to deliver or have delivered their completed ballots, directly into the care of the Clerk or designated Election Official rather than forwarding their ballots by mail:
In the after hours drop box anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until Election Day (October 24th, 2022) at 8:00 PM.
Please contact the Township office if you did not receive a Voting Kit, or if the Voting Kit is lost or destroyed. A replacement Voting Kit may be issued.
Information about Tabulators
For the purpose of counting ballots, the Township of Southwold will utilize optical scanning Vote Tabulators. The Clerk or designated Election Official will facilitate the training sessions for all Election Officials using the Vote Tabulators and shall oversee the programming, testing and use of the Vote Tabulators. August 19, 2022 - Nomination Day 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (A candidate who wishes to withdraw their nomination must notify the clerk in writing before 2:00 pm).
