Main Aspects of the Vote by Mail System
-
All voting is conducted by Vote by Mail, with Vote by Mail Kits mailed to eligible electors on the Voters’ List. A voting location is available at the Municipal Office for in‑person assistance, but voters still use their Vote by Mail Kit.
-
Each Vote by Mail Kit contains a paper ballot, secrecy envelope, voter declaration, prepaid return envelope, and clear voting instructions to protect ballot secrecy and integrity.
-
Voters may return completed ballots by mail or by secure drop‑off at the Municipal Office. All ballots must be received by the Clerk by 8:00 p.m. on Voting Day (October 26, 2026) to be counted.
-
Electors are responsible for ensuring their voter information is correct and that their completed ballot is returned by the deadline. Replacement Vote by Mail Kits may be issued in limited circumstances to ensure only one ballot per elector is counted.
-
Ballot handling, storage, and processing are tightly controlled by the Clerk to maintain security, chain of custody, and confidentiality. Ballots may be processed in advance but results are not viewed or released until after voting closes.
-
Paper ballots are counted using optical scan tabulators, authorized by Council by‑law, with logic and accuracy testing completed in advance and the ability to conduct manual recounts if required.
-
Accessibility is a core feature of the Vote by Mail system, allowing electors to vote from home using personal supports, with additional in‑person assistance and alternative formats available through the Clerk’s office.
