Announcement of Public Works Superintendent

The Township of Southwold is pleased to announce the appointment of Cassandra Loewen as Public Works Superintendent, effective November 1^st, 2025.

Cassandra has been serving as the GIS & Asset Management Coordinator for the Township of Southwold, the Municipality of West Elgin, and the Municipality of Dutton Dunwich since 2023. Prior to this, she worked as the Public Works Coordinator for the Township of Malahide from 2021, bringing five years of municipal experience to the role. Before entering municipal service, Cassandra served for over 11 years as a public servant with Ontario Provincial Parks in a variety of positions across the province, gaining diverse operational and management experience.

We would like to extend our congratulations and sincere gratitude to Paul Van Vaerenbergh on his retirement as Public Works Superintendent. Paul began his tenure with the Township in February 2019 and has played an integral role in maintaining and improving Southwold’s roads and infrastructure. While in the position, Paul oversaw 237 kilometres of Township roads, enhanced gravel road maintenance programs, and was instrumental in the construction of the new Public Works building, set to be completed in 2025.

The Township of Southwold and the entire community thank Paul for his many years of service and commitment, and wish him a well-earned and happy retirement.
