Significant Weather Event Declared Effective: 1/15/2026 at 7:00:00 AM In response to a SNOWFALL WARNING issued by Environment Canada for our area, the Township of Southwold has declared a Significant Weather Event effective immediately. This declaration is made pursuant to s.16.9 of O.Reg. 239/02,
Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, as amended.
As per the Ontario Municipal Act, a municipality may declare a significant weather event when weather hazard, either forecast or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in which they have authority.
This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives. Drivers and Pedestrians are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating roads and sidewalks.
Municipal staff continue to monitor road and weather conditions and will deploy resources where possible to ensure public safety. The Township of Southwold township office is open with limited staff, but due to the weather conditions we encourage you to call or postpone your visit to the office Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.
