Township of Southwold Remembers Deputy Mayor Ian Chard

Township of Southwold, Fingal ON - Upon learning of the passing of Southwold’s previous Deputy Mayor, Ian Chard, Township Council is looking back on both his many accomplishments as an elected official, but also on his contributions as a community member and one of Southwold’s finest.

In 2010 Deputy Mayor Chard was elected to Southwold Council and served one term as Councillor. In 2014 he was elected Deputy Mayor.

Deputy Mayor Chard was on Council for the construction of the Ferndale Park, the new Southwold Library Shedden, the new wastewater treatment plant in Talbotville and the new washrooms and renovations  at the Fingal Ball Park   Always passionate about promoting Southwold, Deputy Mayor Chard was an early advocate for welcoming new residents and businesses  to the community and supported new subdivision development in Talbotville and Ferndale as well as the new lots in Shedden.  He was at the helm of various Council Committees such the Economic Development Committee, Southwold Young at Heart Committee and the Southwold by Tractor Committee. 

Deputy Mayor Chard is celebrated in the Township not only for his leadership as an elected official, but also for the many hours he spent volunteering in the community to make Southwold better for all residents and visitors alike.  Deputy Mayor Chard’s passion for Southwold remains unmatched and his legacy is not only evident in the Township structures and infrastructure, but also in the social fabric of the community members who all share warm memories of Ian.
