Southwold Visits the Capital

Elgin County Warden/Southwold Mayor Grant Jones, Communities in Bloom Chair Valerie Cron, their spouses, and area Southwold residents took a trip to Ottawa this past weekend to take part in Canada 150 celebrations as well as witness the grand opening of the brand new Canadian History Hall that opened to the public at the Canadian Museum of History. Southwold was featured in this interactive exhibit to tell the stories of early settlers of the township and to virtually educate viewers about how to set up the land and build shelter as though they are the families in the stories.

Southwold by Tractor- A Short Film

Lots of old tractors, A beautiful day, two very interesting Stops, two excellent meals and three deserving trophy winners. If you have any interest in tractors this was a great day.
Our first job was to get everyone registered which began at 7:30AM and was handled by Josie and our daughter Joanne.
22 vintage tractors left the Keystone Complex sharply at 9.30 AM to drive to the Fingal Wildlife Centre. Gord and Brenda Longhurst met us at the gate and Gord took us on an interesting tour of the property.

To connect everyone as effectively and efficiently as possible, we’re collecting information about how residents, farms, businesses and public sector organizations currently use of internet across the region. This information will help us determine where we will invest our funding and support SWIFT in achieving its goals of building “broadband for everyone.”

Thank You Southwold Volunteer Firefighters

A message from Deputy Mayor Ian Chard:

Last fall, our Communities in Bloom Committee reccomended to Council that we approve the idea of putting up 200 new Canadian flags throughout the township as part of our Canada 150 celebrations, plus the 50 or so already put up in Shedden and Fingal.

Following Councils unanimous approval, CIB got busy fund raising to make this idea a reality.

Hydro One approval was obtained, the money was raised and our Fire Chief suggested that he approach his volunteer firefighters about installing the flags on the hydro poles.

Recognizing Service and Community Involvement during Canada's 150th Birthday

In honour of Canada's 150th birthday, Karen Vecchio, MP and Jeff Yurek, MPP have teamed up to offer awards to those who go above and beyond in Elgin-Middlesex-London. The hard work and dedication of these individuals adds up to make our area so unique and enjoyable to live in. See the attached document to review the list of categories and fill out the form before July 24th to give an extra special thanks to someone who deserves recognition. Opt to also message the township to point out any outstanding community members.
