Lots of old tractors, A beautiful day, two very interesting Stops, two excellent meals and three deserving trophy winners. If you have any interest in tractors this was a great day.
Our first job was to get everyone registered which began at 7:30AM and was handled by Josie and our daughter Joanne.
22 vintage tractors left the Keystone Complex sharply at 9.30 AM to drive to the Fingal Wildlife Centre. Gord and Brenda Longhurst met us at the gate and Gord took us on an interesting tour of the property.
From there we drove to the Lawrence Station Community Hall for a tasty lunch served by Shirley Longhurst and her helpers.
Following lunch we continued on to the Donkers Family Farm on Mill Rd. (Site of last week’s super successful “Breakfast on the Farm”). There, our host Ed Donkers gave us a personalized tour of his 1000 head goat operation which impressed us all.
Finally, we headed back to the Complex for our “Peoples Choice “ First, Second and Third best tractors vote with the following results:
First – Currie Silcox, John Deere 4020.
Second – Harold Walker, John Deere 40.
Third – Brian Rieger, International 3688.
Participant’s medallions for all the drivers.
After the awards, Harvey and Karen Graff and their helpers served us with a great supper.
Our sincere thanks to our sponsor’s – Huron Tractor, Fingal Farm Supplies, Stan’s Total Tire, Fingal Farm Supply, Dave’s Truck and Auto, Delta Power Equipment, Cotrac Ford Lincoln, Second Nature Land Design, Cargill Limited and Brent Dawdy Construction.
And to, Gord & Brenda Longhurst, Shirley Longhurst & helpers, Ed Donkers, Harvey and Karen Graff and the SS12 committee, Keith Orchard & his “People Mover”, Our Mayor Grant Jones for leading the parade, Councillor Monteith (sometimes known as Bubba) for his much appreciated help this year, our son Tony for his en route mechanical assistance, and Josie and Joanne along with all of our entrants who together made for “A Great Day”.
See you next year,
